You got the home/aftercare plan…. now what?
For those who are leaving PHP, IOP, or RTC themselves
You’ve done so much hard work already. Unfortunately the hardest part comes next: Re-integrating into the world and getting your life back. It’s exciting, you deserve it, and you can handle it. We just want to be there to support you through it as some of the safety nets come down. There will be set backs from new challenges. Remember that everyone’s timelines look different after treatment.
Pivot Point Therapists have been primary therapists in these systems before. We’ve seen young adults from the time they entered inpatient, through up to 2 years after program graduation. Seeing our clients thrive from getting their first job, going to college, forming healthy relationships and seeing that life is worth living has been a joy for Pivot Point. We recognize the transition comes with immense joy, celebration, and also fear, challenges, and sometimes self-doubt. We also know that treatment may have kept you alive, yet it likely created new scars and traumas. There’s room for all of it and we can guide you through it.
I know this is not what you thought parenting would be like. I know this is also not the path you saw for your kid. Though this is hard, it is not failure. It is hope. And they are still alive.
Did your teen just enter their first hospital stay?
Is this one of many hospital stays and you’re starting to lose hope?
Is your child turning 18 and the loss of legal “control” over their wellbeing worries you?
Is your child graduating the program but you’re stressed about when the safeguards come down?
Is your child already over 18 but you’re having a hard time watching them struggle and want to know what you can do?
These are feelings, sentiments, and quandaries that Pivot Point Therapy & Coaching can help you navigate in this transition. Your kid is struggling and therefore so are you. There aren’t a lot of people out there who understand the treatment world and instead there’s a lot of judgement that can fall back on you. Don’t bear it alone.
For the caregivers of those who are leaving (or currently in) PHP, IOP, or RTC .
*Please note that Pivot Point cannot see both a parent and the teen from the same family for individual care at this time. We no longer do family therapy. Therefore only one family member can be the primary client of Pivot Point Therapy & Coaching. If we are seeing your teen and need to consult with you or bring you in for a joint session on occasion that is different and allowed. Parents are allowed to do a free consult if they’d like to see if our provider’s are a better fit for themselves or teen in this part of their process.
